"Music as a Migrant" Bridges Orchestra and Bridges Choir at the hr Broadcast Hall

CANCELLED

Since 2016, the transcultural music initiative Bridges - Music Unites has been bringing together musicians with and without a history of flight and migration and is committed to a musical dialogue that gives a voice to our diverse community and shows how an open society can succeed.

This award-winning initiative will perform for the fifth time as a guest at HR Radio Broadcast Hall. This year's annual concert highlight of the Bridges Orchestra and Bridges Choir is dedicated to "Music as a Migrant". The program includes works that are examples of how music has always spread beyond geographical boundaries and is thereby allowing it to evolve.

The orchestra plays music from Azerbaijan, Sudan, the Middle East, Latin America, Southern and Eastern Europe, in each of which influences from other musical cultures and styles can be heard.  Songs whose melodies have migrated and songs whose lyrics deal with migration are also on the program. The pieces of the evening thus display multiple musical identities and show how the musicians cultivate regional traditions and at the same time create something new together.  As in previous years, the arrangements and commissioned compositions are by Bridges musicians and are tailored to the unique and characteristic instrumentation of the orchestra. This consists of classical orchestral instruments as well as new additions that are not yet anchored in the European orchestral tradition. Thus, the Bridges Orchestra reflects the diversity of the Rhine-Main region and shows the potential of migration: not despite, but because we are different, we can create this music. "Music as a Migrant" makes it clear that migration and integration have always been a constant and enriching process in music.
